I am a Dahl, like the rest of them. Reared by parents that plan for the future and love to provide for their children. One of the principles that they instilled in each of us is to save for a number of rainy days by using “the eighth wonder of the world.”

Albert Einstein described compound interest as the “eighth wonder of the world,” saying, “he who understands it, earns it, he who doesn’t, pays for it.”

Well, I don’t understand it, but those around me do and have set up an ABLE account for those days in the future when rain will come. I have had over 20 surgeries in my life so far, about to embark on another and there will most certainly be other health concerns in the future, among many other needs.

An ABLE Account is similar to a 529 account, which is used for education expenses. Anyone can contribute to my ABLE account, the funds grow tax free, and I can use the funds for any disability expense “to maintain health, independence, and quality of life.”

My ABLE Account is through North Carolina ABLE. They are a member of the National ABLE Alliance and manage my ABLE fund.
